Membership Intake: Process by which interested persons become members of most Culturally based fraternal organizations. Legacy stipulations differ for each sorority and fraternity Legacy: A person whose direct relative (parent, sibling, grandparents) is an alumna or active member of a fraternity/sorority. Interfraternity Council: The governing body of the campus fraternities. Initiation: A ceremony in which a pledged member becomes an active member Informally, the name applied to men's groups. Replaced "Smokers" that fraternities held or "Teas" that sororities held for potential members prior to pledging (up until 1990) though some still use those terms.įormal Recruitment: The major period of time set aside by the ISC and CFA with a series of organized events for meeting potential new members, also known as rush.įraternity: Formally, the name applied to all Greek letter organizations. Also referred to as an Interest meeting, or a Rush. Informational: A meeting to provide memebrship information to perspective members. it is also present in their full name Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha Incorporada or Sisterhood of Sigma Iota Alpha Incoporated. Sigma Iota Alpha members use this term to refer to one another. Unrecognized groups have no affiliation with or supervision by the University, do not follow the standards set for recognized groups, and their members do not participate in trainings that educate students about alcohol and other drugs, mental health, hazing, and sexual assault prevention. Alpha Sigma Phi (ASP or Alpha Sig) lost its University recognition in June 2019 following its University suspension and the subsequent revocation of its charter by its headquarters.Kappa Pi Alpha (KPA) was expelled from campus in 2013 and is not recognized or supported by Bentley University.Community members should be aware that the organizations listed below do not have university recognition or permission to operate. Only those organizations listed above have Bentley University recognition and approval to operate or have Bentley University permission to participate in an expansion process. Bentley University supports membership in a number of different fraternity and sorority chapters, which include campus-based chapters (chapters made up of only Bentley students) as well as city-wide chapters (chapters made up of students from Bentley and area colleges and universities).
